Narrative:

The controller said to cross runway 14 and turn left on taxiway H to a point to hold short of runway 14. He had given another aircraft a similar clearance from another ramp. I read back the clearance and we proceeded across runway 14, left on taxiway H across the departure end of runway 9/27. The controller asked why we didn't stop at runway 27. I said the clearance as I understood was clear to a point at the end of runway 14. He said I was supposed to hold short of runway 27. I believe the cause was due to the phraseology that is completely backwards from us and doesn't use the same terminology. Also, the difficulty in understanding the accent. When the controller said 'hotel' I believe now that he said 'hold there.' ICAO -- proceed to a point short of runway 14 and hold. Us -- taxi to runway 14 and hold short. ICAO -- line up and wait. Us -- position and hold. Let's use the same language. I like the united states terminology.

Title: DA20 FLT CREW AT MYNN TAXIED ACROSS THE APCH END OF RWY 27 WITHOUT CLRNC. RPTR CLAIMS THE CAUSE WAS DUE TO ATC PHRASEOLOGY AND DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING CTLR'S ACCENT.

Narrative: THE CTLR SAID TO CROSS RWY 14 AND TURN L ON TXWY H TO A POINT TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14. HE HAD GIVEN ANOTHER ACFT A SIMILAR CLRNC FROM ANOTHER RAMP. I READ BACK THE CLRNC AND WE PROCEEDED ACROSS RWY 14, L ON TXWY H ACROSS THE DEP END OF RWY 9/27. THE CTLR ASKED WHY WE DIDN'T STOP AT RWY 27. I SAID THE CLRNC AS I UNDERSTOOD WAS CLR TO A POINT AT THE END OF RWY 14. HE SAID I WAS SUPPOSED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE WAS DUE TO THE PHRASEOLOGY THAT IS COMPLETELY BACKWARDS FROM US AND DOESN'T USE THE SAME TERMINOLOGY. ALSO, THE DIFFICULTY IN UNDERSTANDING THE ACCENT. WHEN THE CTLR SAID 'HOTEL' I BELIEVE NOW THAT HE SAID 'HOLD THERE.' ICAO -- PROCEED TO A POINT SHORT OF RWY 14 AND HOLD. US -- TAXI TO RWY 14 AND HOLD SHORT. ICAO -- LINE UP AND WAIT. US -- POS AND HOLD. LET'S USE THE SAME LANGUAGE. I LIKE THE UNITED STATES TERMINOLOGY.
