Narrative:

While taxiing to runway 33 from the FBO ramp we were conducting checklist items promptly due to the short taxi. As we neared the runway 33 approach signs I questioned the first officer if that was our runway hold point as it seemed quite far from the actual runway. The first officer stated (after consulting the approach chart) that the taxiway continued straight and did not actually intersect the white lights for runway 33 ahead and we should continue. As we began to cross the hold lines I realized that it was the runway 33 hold short lines and stopped the aircraft. At this time the tower stated that we appeared to be over the hold line. Due to the short taxi, dark conditions, and somewhat confusing layout of the hold point, this would be a good place to have runway guard lights, a stop bar or even a sign.
