Narrative:

Upon landing on runway 5R at ind, was cleared to taxi full length, exit at C1, hold short of taxiway C, and contact ground control. Called ground control, exiting runway 5 holding short of taxiway C. Ground said to give way to aircraft Y. However, aircraft Y was well ahead of me headed in opposite direction. As I reported to ground that I was exiting runway 5 going to parking they replied to give way to aircraft Y, make 180 degrees. I did so thinking they were talking to me. That 180 degrees put me back on the active runway 5R. I then called ground and asked if they wanted me to exit on taxiway C2 and they replied with exit runway immediately. Following this, they gave me instructions to taxi to the FBO. Tower called FBO and wanted me to call the supervisor. There was a lot of confusion on ground control as aircraft Y actually turned right instead of left and ground was trying to get him to make a 180 degree turn which would have made it logical for me to give way. It was never clear to me that ground control was talking to aircraft Y to make a 180 degree turn that I thought they were instructing me to make. The supervisor reviewed the tape and stated that there seemed to be a lot of confusion and it was not clear as to how to handle the situation other than do their necessary paperwork. Transmission by ground or by me must have been stepped on during communications. I did not understand why ground wanted me to make a 180 degree turn, but I followed their instructions without questioning them. Again the chatter was confusing.

Title: MU2 PLT RESPONDED TO ANOTHER ACFT'S TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHILE HOLDING FOR TAXI CLRNC. RESULTED IN A RWY INCURSION.

Narrative: UPON LNDG ON RWY 5R AT IND, WAS CLRED TO TAXI FULL LENGTH, EXIT AT C1, HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C, AND CONTACT GND CTL. CALLED GND CTL, EXITING RWY 5 HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY C. GND SAID TO GIVE WAY TO ACFT Y. HOWEVER, ACFT Y WAS WELL AHEAD OF ME HEADED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION. AS I RPTED TO GND THAT I WAS EXITING RWY 5 GOING TO PARKING THEY REPLIED TO GIVE WAY TO ACFT Y, MAKE 180 DEGS. I DID SO THINKING THEY WERE TALKING TO ME. THAT 180 DEGS PUT ME BACK ON THE ACTIVE RWY 5R. I THEN CALLED GND AND ASKED IF THEY WANTED ME TO EXIT ON TXWY C2 AND THEY REPLIED WITH EXIT RWY IMMEDIATELY. FOLLOWING THIS, THEY GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO THE FBO. TWR CALLED FBO AND WANTED ME TO CALL THE SUPVR. THERE WAS A LOT OF CONFUSION ON GND CTL AS ACFT Y ACTUALLY TURNED R INSTEAD OF L AND GND WAS TRYING TO GET HIM TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE IT LOGICAL FOR ME TO GIVE WAY. IT WAS NEVER CLR TO ME THAT GND CTL WAS TALKING TO ACFT Y TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN THAT I THOUGHT THEY WERE INSTRUCTING ME TO MAKE. THE SUPVR REVIEWED THE TAPE AND STATED THAT THERE SEEMED TO BE A LOT OF CONFUSION AND IT WAS NOT CLR AS TO HOW TO HANDLE THE SIT OTHER THAN DO THEIR NECESSARY PAPERWORK. XMISSION BY GND OR BY ME MUST HAVE BEEN STEPPED ON DURING COMS. I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GND WANTED ME TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN, BUT I FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS WITHOUT QUESTIONING THEM. AGAIN THE CHATTER WAS CONFUSING.
