Narrative:

Shortly after takeoff, captain called back and informed flight attendant #1 that they were having problems with the controls and that we would be returning to mia to have it checked out. The captain then made a PA to inform the passenger and told us to 'prepare for landing.' unaware that the captain had declared an emergency we prepared the cabin and galley for a normal landing and took our jump seats. The landing seemed normal and we taxied to the gate. Once there, the plane was inspected and taken OTS. We were given another plane and continued with our trip.
