Narrative:

On walkaround, I noticed the nosewheel tires had 700/900 only written on both sides of the tires. We called maintenance control who researched the problem and contacted contract maintenance to come change the tires. We were advised of a 1 hour fix time and that the mechanics were working on another plane and would be along in a while. By the time they showed up, maintenance control had decided that these tires were ok to use on the 400. These tires had been on the aircraft since aug/tue/02, 24 days. Since these tires have a different dimension from regular 400 tires, maintenance control should have known that these tires were ok to use, and the limitation should have been removed from the tire markings.
