Narrative:

On aug/wed/02, I was flying aircraft X. Between chs and rdu, a PA speaker came out of the wall of the cabin. In rdu, I wrote the item up in the aircraft discrepancy log. With maintenance control, I MEL'ed the broken speaker as a passenger convenience item and continued to fly the aircraft for the rest of the day. All other speakers were working in the cabin so there was no safety concern. The problem arose the next morning, aug/thu/02. Another maintenance employee working in ZZZ, did not agree with the write-up on the aircraft. He has the airplane ferried to clt where the speaker was fixed. Clearly, there is a discrepancy on whether a cabin speaker can be written up as a passenger convenience item. Cabin lights, air vents are all convenience items, so why not speakers -- especially when there is more than 1 -- typically 3-4 cabin speakers in this aircraft! One maintenance controller is in disagreement with another. This item should be in black and white in the MEL portion of the aircraft discrepancy log. Then there would be no conflicts and the write-up could not be left up to interpretation.

Title: B190 CREW AND THE ACR MAINT CTLRS DISAGREE ABOUT THE APPROPRIATENESS OF AN MEL'ED INOP CABIN SPEAKER WHICH HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE CABIN WALL.

Narrative: ON AUG/WED/02, I WAS FLYING ACFT X. BTWN CHS AND RDU, A PA SPEAKER CAME OUT OF THE WALL OF THE CABIN. IN RDU, I WROTE THE ITEM UP IN THE ACFT DISCREPANCY LOG. WITH MAINT CTL, I MEL'ED THE BROKEN SPEAKER AS A PAX CONVENIENCE ITEM AND CONTINUED TO FLY THE ACFT FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. ALL OTHER SPEAKERS WERE WORKING IN THE CABIN SO THERE WAS NO SAFETY CONCERN. THE PROB AROSE THE NEXT MORNING, AUG/THU/02. ANOTHER MAINT EMPLOYEE WORKING IN ZZZ, DID NOT AGREE WITH THE WRITE-UP ON THE ACFT. HE HAS THE AIRPLANE FERRIED TO CLT WHERE THE SPEAKER WAS FIXED. CLRLY, THERE IS A DISCREPANCY ON WHETHER A CABIN SPEAKER CAN BE WRITTEN UP AS A PAX CONVENIENCE ITEM. CABIN LIGHTS, AIR VENTS ARE ALL CONVENIENCE ITEMS, SO WHY NOT SPEAKERS -- ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS MORE THAN 1 -- TYPICALLY 3-4 CABIN SPEAKERS IN THIS ACFT! ONE MAINT CTLR IS IN DISAGREEMENT WITH ANOTHER. THIS ITEM SHOULD BE IN BLACK AND WHITE IN THE MEL PORTION OF THE ACFT DISCREPANCY LOG. THEN THERE WOULD BE NO CONFLICTS AND THE WRITE-UP COULD NOT BE LEFT UP TO INTERP.
