Narrative:

During normal cruise at FL310, #3 engine exhibited a strong vibration and then flamed out. There was no indication of fire (no fire light illuminated). Performed the red tabs for 'severe engine damage/fire/failure checklist.' proceeded directly to iah and landed without incident. Had the fire equipment waiting upon our arrival and the fire department inspected the #3 engine for possible damage -- there was none. Taxied to the gate and shut down remaining engines.
