Narrative:
This aircraft had MEL item '27-4 forward leading edge transit light and #3 overhead leading edge slat indicator.' I had flown the same aircraft the previous day for 3 legs and terminated the aircraft in ZZZ. Although I complied, to the best of my knowledge, with the MEL provisos, all related system indications were normal. This morning I received a call from scheduling directing me to report to the airport to fly the same airplane to ZZZ1. I learned that the crew that was originally to fly that aircraft had declined because they weren't sure the aircraft was legal for dispatch, and I was to fly the trip with the original first officer. Since I had flown the plane previously, I had thought the plane was legal, but felt I should make sure. After numerous conference calls with maintenance, dispatch, and a chief pilot, it was our determination that the deferral was legal and applicable. I flew the airplane to ZZZ1.
