Narrative:

The flight experienced 2 compressor stalls on the #2 engine while in level cruise flight at FL370. At that time the ECAM displayed a #2 oil filter clog message. Dispatch/maintenance control were contacted to discuss the problem. The flight attendant contacted the cockpit at this time in regards to the 'banging' of the engine and a slight 'burnt electrical' smell in the cabin. They were made aware of the situation and were told that we would pass information to them as we knew more about the problem. During our conversation with maintenance control the #2 engine oil pressure slowly decreased toward zero and the ECAM displayed the #2 engine shutdown checklist message. Engine #2 was shut down at this time per ECAM and an emergency was declared to dispatch and ATC. An in-flight diversion was made to stl per agreement with the captain/sic/ATC. The cabin crew was notified of the diversion at this time and instructed to prepare the cabin for a precautionary landing in stl. Descent into stl was normal and during descent we confirmed that all checklists and procedures/notifications had been accomplished per ECAM/fcom/fom. A single engine landing was briefed. Aircraft made a visual approach to stl runway 30L at approximately 146000 pounds with a 300 FPM rate of descent at touchdown. Stl crash fire rescue was on standby for the landing at our request and after clearing the runway made a visual check of the aircraft for damage/fire with none being noted. Aircraft was taxied to the gate under its own power to park. After completing the shutdown checklist the aircraft was released to company personnel. Notations were made in the flight crew duty/maintenance log reference the engine discrepancy and the overweight landing.

Narrative: THE FLT EXPERIENCED 2 COMPRESSOR STALLS ON THE #2 ENG WHILE IN LEVEL CRUISE FLT AT FL370. AT THAT TIME THE ECAM DISPLAYED A #2 OIL FILTER CLOG MESSAGE. DISPATCH/MAINT CTL WERE CONTACTED TO DISCUSS THE PROB. THE FLT ATTENDANT CONTACTED THE COCKPIT AT THIS TIME IN REGARDS TO THE 'BANGING' OF THE ENG AND A SLIGHT 'BURNT ELECTRICAL' SMELL IN THE CABIN. THEY WERE MADE AWARE OF THE SIT AND WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD PASS INFO TO THEM AS WE KNEW MORE ABOUT THE PROB. DURING OUR CONVERSATION WITH MAINT CTL THE #2 ENG OIL PRESSURE SLOWLY DECREASED TOWARD ZERO AND THE ECAM DISPLAYED THE #2 ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST MESSAGE. ENG #2 WAS SHUT DOWN AT THIS TIME PER ECAM AND AN EMER WAS DECLARED TO DISPATCH AND ATC. AN INFLT DIVERSION WAS MADE TO STL PER AGREEMENT WITH THE CAPT/SIC/ATC. THE CABIN CREW WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DIVERSION AT THIS TIME AND INSTRUCTED TO PREPARE THE CABIN FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG IN STL. DSCNT INTO STL WAS NORMAL AND DURING DSCNT WE CONFIRMED THAT ALL CHKLISTS AND PROCS/NOTIFICATIONS HAD BEEN ACCOMPLISHED PER ECAM/FCOM/FOM. A SINGLE ENG LNDG WAS BRIEFED. ACFT MADE A VISUAL APCH TO STL RWY 30L AT APPROX 146000 LBS WITH A 300 FPM RATE OF DSCNT AT TOUCHDOWN. STL CRASH FIRE RESCUE WAS ON STANDBY FOR THE LNDG AT OUR REQUEST AND AFTER CLRING THE RWY MADE A VISUAL CHK OF THE ACFT FOR DAMAGE/FIRE WITH NONE BEING NOTED. ACFT WAS TAXIED TO THE GATE UNDER ITS OWN PWR TO PARK. AFTER COMPLETING THE SHUTDOWN CHKLIST THE ACFT WAS RELEASED TO COMPANY PERSONNEL. NOTATIONS WERE MADE IN THE FLC DUTY/MAINT LOG REF THE ENG DISCREPANCY AND THE OVERWT LNDG.
