Narrative:

After a normal preflight, start, taxi out, takeoff and climb out at approximately FL240 we received a fuel autofeed fault ECAM. We followed the ECAM procedure and evaluated our fuel state. We noted a 3000 pound imbalance between left and right inner wing tanks. After attempting to balance fuel to no avail, we noted fuel rapidly decreasing from left side with wing pumps off. We declared an emergency and diverted to iad. We accomplished a fuel leak irregular checklist as well as an overweight landing checklist. The landing was normal on runway 12 at iad.
