Narrative:

Msp approach gave us a descent from 11000 ft to 9000 ft. We started normal descent and were advised of a cessna at 2 O'clock and 8500 ft after we passed 10000 ft. Just before leveling at 9000 ft we got a TA, and almost immediately an RA (climb). PNF said later the cessna showed 9000 ft on TCASII. We disconnected autoplt and climbed approximately 400 ft and advised ATC of RA. ATC did not respond. We got 'monitor vertical speed' and 'clear of conflict' in short order, and at about the same time were given further descent to 8000 ft and speed reduction to 190 KTS. I reconnected the autoplt, started speed reduction, and turned to 120 degrees over bykes intersection. We were then switched to another frequency and nothing was ever heard about the incident. I believe small aircraft was less than 500 ft vertical and very close horizontal from us. Neither captain nor first officer ever saw the other aircraft.

Title: NMAC BTWN A DSNDING A319 AND A CESSNA SUPPOSEDLY IN LEVEL FLT RPTED BY ATC AT 8500 FT 3 MI SW OF GEP, MN.

Narrative: MSP APCH GAVE US A DSCNT FROM 11000 FT TO 9000 FT. WE STARTED NORMAL DSCNT AND WERE ADVISED OF A CESSNA AT 2 O'CLOCK AND 8500 FT AFTER WE PASSED 10000 FT. JUST BEFORE LEVELING AT 9000 FT WE GOT A TA, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AN RA (CLB). PNF SAID LATER THE CESSNA SHOWED 9000 FT ON TCASII. WE DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND CLBED APPROX 400 FT AND ADVISED ATC OF RA. ATC DID NOT RESPOND. WE GOT 'MONITOR VERT SPD' AND 'CLR OF CONFLICT' IN SHORT ORDER, AND AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME WERE GIVEN FURTHER DSCNT TO 8000 FT AND SPD REDUCTION TO 190 KTS. I RECONNECTED THE AUTOPLT, STARTED SPD REDUCTION, AND TURNED TO 120 DEGS OVER BYKES INTXN. WE WERE THEN SWITCHED TO ANOTHER FREQ AND NOTHING WAS EVER HEARD ABOUT THE INCIDENT. I BELIEVE SMALL ACFT WAS LESS THAN 500 FT VERT AND VERY CLOSE HORIZ FROM US. NEITHER CAPT NOR FO EVER SAW THE OTHER ACFT.
