Narrative:

After holding at rippi and being cleared for the approach, we were cleared to land on runway 27L at atl 4-5 mi behind an air carrier heavy. We called the aircraft in sight and were cleared for a visual approach. A decision was made to fly above the GS for wake turbulence and to the side of the localizer. In the vicinity of depot, the autoplt was selected off and the aircraft was hand flown to completion. Light rain began on short final. Upon transitioning from instruments to a visual, an inadvertent landing occurred on taxiway right. An initial attempt to go around was made, but was aborted at touchdown by the captain. We taxied across runway 27L at N2 and held short of runway 27R at taxiway T. We were cleared to cross runway 27R and proceeded to the gate without further incidents. Supplemental information from acn 552584: inside the marker, I noticed some drizzle on the windshield. We were cleared to land runway 27L. On very short final, I realized that we were lined up on taxiway right. I called for a go around. The first officer advanced the power levers but before the engines could spool up we landed on taxiway right. The taxiway was clear of obstructions and I elected to abort the go around and stop on taxiway right. We crossed runway 27L at taxiway R3. After checking to see where the landing traffic behind us was, and judging that I could do so safely, I elected to cross runway 27L in order to get to taxiway N2. The tower sent the traffic behind us around due to traffic (us) on the runway.

WE CROSSED RWY 27L AT TXWY R3. AFTER CHKING TO SEE WHERE THE LNDG TFC BEHIND US WAS, AND JUDGING THAT I COULD DO SO SAFELY, I ELECTED TO CROSS RWY 27L IN ORDER TO GET TO TXWY N2. THE TWR SENT THE TFC BEHIND US AROUND DUE TO TFC (US) ON THE RWY.
