Narrative:

Right nose tire failed on takeoff roll from dfw runway 18L. We had extreme vibrations at V1 speed and after rotation. Continued takeoff, did not retract landing gear. We burned off fuel and came back to dfw for landing on runway 17C. Maintenance changed the tire and pinned the landing gear. We then taxied to the gate. Supplemental information from acn 552859: on climb out I smelled rubber burning. Within 10 mins the captain called and said he thought we may have blown a tire on takeoff and the gear would remain down. The captain decided to 'burn fuel' (which takes approximately 2 hours) and return to dfw. In that 2 hours flight attendant #1,4 and myself prepared for emergency landing.

Title: AN MD80 CREW, DEPARTING DFW, EXPERIENCED A NOSE GEAR TIRE FAILURE ON TKOF ROLL, SPAWNING A RETURN TO DFW.

Narrative: R NOSE TIRE FAILED ON TKOF ROLL FROM DFW RWY 18L. WE HAD EXTREME VIBRATIONS AT V1 SPD AND AFTER ROTATION. CONTINUED TKOF, DID NOT RETRACT LNDG GEAR. WE BURNED OFF FUEL AND CAME BACK TO DFW FOR LNDG ON RWY 17C. MAINT CHANGED THE TIRE AND PINNED THE LNDG GEAR. WE THEN TAXIED TO THE GATE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 552859: ON CLBOUT I SMELLED RUBBER BURNING. WITHIN 10 MINS THE CAPT CALLED AND SAID HE THOUGHT WE MAY HAVE BLOWN A TIRE ON TKOF AND THE GEAR WOULD REMAIN DOWN. THE CAPT DECIDED TO 'BURN FUEL' (WHICH TAKES APPROX 2 HRS) AND RETURN TO DFW. IN THAT 2 HRS FLT ATTENDANT #1,4 AND MYSELF PREPARED FOR EMER LNDG.
