Narrative:

In cruise at FL350 just north of mei, we received a TCASII TA. The TCASII display indicated there was traffic at our altitude 6 mi ahead, at 1 O'clock position. The first officer and I became very heads up as we scanned outside for the traffic. Approximately 5 seconds after the original TA, we received an aural RA of 'descend, descend.' with this warning, company procedures dictate that the autoplt be disarmed and an immediate descent of 1500 FPM be initiated. I followed these procedures and descended to FL340 when the RA and TA stopped. As soon as we began the descent, the first officer radioed ATC to inform them of the intrusion and our descent. It soon became apparent that our TCASII had provided faulty indications as a thorough visual scan of the area and ATC surveillance showed no conflicting targets. We climbed back to FL350 and the flight continued with no further events.

Title: AN ALT EXCURSION OUT OF FL350 WHEN A CL65 PIC FOLLOWS HIS TCASII RA THAT WAS ISSUING A FALSE WARNING FOR A DSCNT OUT OF HIS ASSIGNED ALT 20 NM N OF MEI, MS.

Narrative: IN CRUISE AT FL350 JUST N OF MEI, WE RECEIVED A TCASII TA. THE TCASII DISPLAY INDICATED THERE WAS TFC AT OUR ALT 6 MI AHEAD, AT 1 O'CLOCK POS. THE FO AND I BECAME VERY HEADS UP AS WE SCANNED OUTSIDE FOR THE TFC. APPROX 5 SECONDS AFTER THE ORIGINAL TA, WE RECEIVED AN AURAL RA OF 'DSND, DSND.' WITH THIS WARNING, COMPANY PROCS DICTATE THAT THE AUTOPLT BE DISARMED AND AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT OF 1500 FPM BE INITIATED. I FOLLOWED THESE PROCS AND DSNDED TO FL340 WHEN THE RA AND TA STOPPED. AS SOON AS WE BEGAN THE DSCNT, THE FO RADIOED ATC TO INFORM THEM OF THE INTRUSION AND OUR DSCNT. IT SOON BECAME APPARENT THAT OUR TCASII HAD PROVIDED FAULTY INDICATIONS AS A THOROUGH VISUAL SCAN OF THE AREA AND ATC SURVEILLANCE SHOWED NO CONFLICTING TARGETS. WE CLBED BACK TO FL350 AND THE FLT CONTINUED WITH NO FURTHER EVENTS.
