Narrative:

Copilot called witted tower requesting taxi with eastbound VFR departure. Tower called back with instructions to taxi to runway 6, winds and altimeter setting. As we approached the runway, copilot and I were discussing departure procedures to avoid tampa class B. Arriving at runway I asked copilot if we were to taxi into position and hold, he said yes. I proceeded past hold short line before noticing a plane on final. I stopped with right wing over displaced threshold. Tower asked why we were on runway. Copilot replied that we had given an improper readback -- sorry. My plan to avoid a future reoccurrence of this is to more closely monitor tower conversation when I'm not handling the radios. As PIC of this part 91 maintenance flight, I'm very sorry that it happened and am prepared to do whatever is asked of me.
