Narrative:

Parking at gate X at dfw. After we parked, the crew chief came up and asked us why we didn't stop when he gave us the stop signal. I did not see any stop signal and when I asked the first officer, he didn't either. I assured the crew chief that I had no intention whatsoever of continuing the taxi while he's telling me to stop. The only thing that I can think of is that we were watching a tug on the right side of the aircraft, which looked as though he might not have seen us, so we were keeping an eye on him. Perhaps the marshaler might have given us the signal while we were watching the moving tug. I have no other explanation. Supplemental information from acn 549097: almost taxied into gate due to baggage carts moving and possibly becoming a conflict. After shutdown, crew chief informed us the lead marshaler gave a stop signal. Possibly the signal was given while we were clearing the baggage cart on the right. The crew chief that made us aware of this did not witness the event nor did he have any other explanations or comments.

Title: AN MD80 CREW, WHILE PARKING AT DFW, FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE MARSHALER'S STOP SIGNAL.

Narrative: PARKING AT GATE X AT DFW. AFTER WE PARKED, THE CREW CHIEF CAME UP AND ASKED US WHY WE DIDN'T STOP WHEN HE GAVE US THE STOP SIGNAL. I DID NOT SEE ANY STOP SIGNAL AND WHEN I ASKED THE FO, HE DIDN'T EITHER. I ASSURED THE CREW CHIEF THAT I HAD NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER OF CONTINUING THE TAXI WHILE HE'S TELLING ME TO STOP. THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN THINK OF IS THAT WE WERE WATCHING A TUG ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT, WHICH LOOKED AS THOUGH HE MIGHT NOT HAVE SEEN US, SO WE WERE KEEPING AN EYE ON HIM. PERHAPS THE MARSHALER MIGHT HAVE GIVEN US THE SIGNAL WHILE WE WERE WATCHING THE MOVING TUG. I HAVE NO OTHER EXPLANATION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 549097: ALMOST TAXIED INTO GATE DUE TO BAGGAGE CARTS MOVING AND POSSIBLY BECOMING A CONFLICT. AFTER SHUTDOWN, CREW CHIEF INFORMED US THE LEAD MARSHALER GAVE A STOP SIGNAL. POSSIBLY THE SIGNAL WAS GIVEN WHILE WE WERE CLRING THE BAGGAGE CART ON THE R. THE CREW CHIEF THAT MADE US AWARE OF THIS DID NOT WITNESS THE EVENT NOR DID HE HAVE ANY OTHER EXPLANATIONS OR COMMENTS.
