Narrative:

I was told to 'taxi to runway 12R, hold short runway 12L.' while proceeding as cleared, ground said 'no need to hold short anymore.' I said to my copilot, 'he said I don't need to hold short, right?' my copilot said, 'that's right.' I then heard the ground controller say 'hey, it looks like you missed the hold short line for runway 12R, stop there and contact tower.' we contacted tower, were cleared for takeoff, and nothing else was said. No traffic conflict occurred. The problem was the misperception that was caused by the statement 'no need to hold short anymore.' I allowed that statement to lead me to think I didn't have to hold short of any runway, including the runway I was cleared to taxi to. To prevent this in the future, ask for a clarification any time there is the slightest doubt as to what your clearance is.

Title: MD88 CAPT FAILED TO STOP PRIOR TO ENTERING THE ACTIVE RWY TO WHICH HE WAS CLRED DUE TO MISUNDERSTANDING THAT RWY HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTION RESCINDED DID NOT INCLUDE THE RWY TO WHICH HE WAS CLRED.

Narrative: I WAS TOLD TO 'TAXI TO RWY 12R, HOLD SHORT RWY 12L.' WHILE PROCEEDING AS CLRED, GND SAID 'NO NEED TO HOLD SHORT ANYMORE.' I SAID TO MY COPLT, 'HE SAID I DON'T NEED TO HOLD SHORT, RIGHT?' MY COPLT SAID, 'THAT'S RIGHT.' I THEN HEARD THE GND CTLR SAY 'HEY, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU MISSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 12R, STOP THERE AND CONTACT TWR.' WE CONTACTED TWR, WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, AND NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. NO TFC CONFLICT OCCURRED. THE PROB WAS THE MISPERCEPTION THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE STATEMENT 'NO NEED TO HOLD SHORT ANYMORE.' I ALLOWED THAT STATEMENT TO LEAD ME TO THINK I DIDN'T HAVE TO HOLD SHORT OF ANY RWY, INCLUDING THE RWY I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO. TO PREVENT THIS IN THE FUTURE, ASK FOR A CLARIFICATION ANY TIME THERE IS THE SLIGHTEST DOUBT AS TO WHAT YOUR CLRNC IS.
