Narrative:

Due to inoperative pressurization valve, maintenance advised pilots to run up engines to cure the problem with valve. Aircraft was parked at boarding gate. Captain looked behind aircraft to check clearance for run-up. Captain saw a B737 parked and empty and unattended 100 yards behind. Captain thought 100 yards was sufficient clearance for jetblast. Captain ran up engines to required 60% N1 briefly. A few mins later, other B737 mechanics advised that jetblast had slammed shut their aircraft's entry door, breaking the door's gust lock and deploying the door's emergency slide. Other air carrier's mechanics said their aircraft was not due to be used for 6 hours and they probably could install new gust lock and emergency slide in time to operate their aircraft on schedule. Captain learned to do run-ups only at designated areas, no matter what run-up power to be used.

Title: 0B737-700 CAPT CAUSED BLAST DAMAGE TO A B737-300 ACFT DURING A HIGH PWR RUN-UP AT THE GATE.

Narrative: DUE TO INOP PRESSURIZATION VALVE, MAINT ADVISED PLTS TO RUN UP ENGS TO CURE THE PROB WITH VALVE. ACFT WAS PARKED AT BOARDING GATE. CAPT LOOKED BEHIND ACFT TO CHK CLRNC FOR RUN-UP. CAPT SAW A B737 PARKED AND EMPTY AND UNATTENDED 100 YARDS BEHIND. CAPT THOUGHT 100 YARDS WAS SUFFICIENT CLRNC FOR JETBLAST. CAPT RAN UP ENGS TO REQUIRED 60% N1 BRIEFLY. A FEW MINS LATER, OTHER B737 MECHS ADVISED THAT JETBLAST HAD SLAMMED SHUT THEIR ACFT'S ENTRY DOOR, BREAKING THE DOOR'S GUST LOCK AND DEPLOYING THE DOOR'S EMER SLIDE. OTHER ACR'S MECHS SAID THEIR ACFT WAS NOT DUE TO BE USED FOR 6 HRS AND THEY PROBABLY COULD INSTALL NEW GUST LOCK AND EMER SLIDE IN TIME TO OPERATE THEIR ACFT ON SCHEDULE. CAPT LEARNED TO DO RUN-UPS ONLY AT DESIGNATED AREAS, NO MATTER WHAT RUN-UP PWR TO BE USED.
