Narrative:

During a repositioning (empty) flight from 3j7 to fty, in cruise flight at 6000 ft, we received a TCASII RA for traffic and had to leave our altitude to avoid a midair collision. We went to 6400 ft MSL and advised center immediately. The controller (frequency 127.5) apologized and said he should have warned us of the VFR traffic, but he thought we should be clear. After the TCASII said 'clear of conflict, 'we returned to our assigned 6000 ft altitude. Upon landing, we were asked to call ZTL. Upon calling the center, we were informed above us. We also saw the traffic above us but received no RA on that aircraft. This action prevented a midair collision.
