At parking ramp was clear to runway 18 via, taxiway C runway 27. Upon reaching runway 18 I proceeded to enter the runway thinking run-up would be on end of runway 18. Tower (ground control) ask if heard hold short instructions, cleared me across runway and did run-up on other side. Thinking I was on runway (27-09) I was getting off that onto runway 18 to do run-up, not thinking I was trying to free up 27-09 since I was cleared to runway 18. Would have helped if they (tower) would have actually stated hold short runway 18 run-up on runway 27 due to being on a runway instead of a taxiway (was not told to hold short).

Title: PLT ASSUMES CLRNC IS TAXI TO AND ENTER ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: AT PARKING RAMP WAS CLR TO RWY 18 VIA, TXWY C RWY 27. UPON REACHING RWY 18 I PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE RWY THINKING RUN-UP WOULD BE ON END OF RWY 18. TWR (GND CTL) ASK IF HEARD HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS, CLRED ME ACROSS RWY AND DID RUN-UP ON OTHER SIDE. THINKING I WAS ON RWY (27-09) I WAS GETTING OFF THAT ONTO RWY 18 TO DO RUN-UP, NOT THINKING I WAS TRYING TO FREE UP 27-09 SINCE I WAS CLRED TO RWY 18. WOULD HAVE HELPED IF THEY (TWR) WOULD HAVE ACTUALLY STATED HOLD SHORT RWY 18 RUN-UP ON RWY 27 DUE TO BEING ON A RWY INSTEAD OF A TXWY (WAS NOT TOLD TO HOLD SHORT).
