Narrative:
I just finished my run-up. I was holding short of the runway, so I called the tower and told them that I was ready for takeoff. They came back with what I thought was 'taxi into position and hold.' I then proceeded onto the runway. The tower came back and told me to get off of the runway. There was an airplane coming in on final that saw me, but continued his approach and made a normal landing. I called back to the tower and told them that I thought they said 'taxi into position and hold.' they then cleared me for takeoff. This occurred at the kansas city downtown airport.

Title: AS A C172 PLT MISTAKENLY TAXIED INTO POS TO HOLD ON THE RWY, TWR CTLR INSTRUCTED HIM TO RETURN TO HOLD SHORT LINE DUE TO ANOTHER ACFT APCHING TO LAND.
Narrative: I JUST FINISHED MY RUN-UP. I WAS HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY, SO I CALLED THE TWR AND TOLD THEM THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF. THEY CAME BACK WITH WHAT I THOUGHT WAS 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD.' I THEN PROCEEDED ONTO THE RWY. THE TWR CAME BACK AND TOLD ME TO GET OFF OF THE RWY. THERE WAS AN AIRPLANE COMING IN ON FINAL THAT SAW ME, BUT CONTINUED HIS APCH AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG. I CALLED BACK TO THE TWR AND TOLD THEM THAT I THOUGHT THEY SAID 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD.' THEY THEN CLRED ME FOR TKOF. THIS OCCURRED AT THE KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN ARPT.
