Narrative:

On IFR takeoff from SOP, nc, we turned right to avoid small plane traffic in the traffic pattern for runway 5 at SOP. We spotted a small aircraft (high wing) east of the airport and rolled out to avoid a conflict with that aircraft. After clearing the airplane, we continued our turn and may have flown up against the edge of the restr area ese of SOP. The other airplane did not show up on our TCASII. On contact with ATC, we were advised to keep our turn tight to avoid the restr area. Here is a case where we used TCASII to make a tactical decision to navigation in VFR conditions only to encounter what must have been a non transponder aircraft. That became a starting point for a potential navigation blunder. In retrospect, I should not have forgotten that a large number of non transponder equipped airplanes still use the airspace around smaller airports. In our all IFR, mostly big city operations, it gets easy to rely more and more on ATC and TCASII for traffic conflict alert.

Title: A C550 CREW, DEPARTING SOP, MADE AN EVASIVE TURN TO AVOID ARRIVING TFC. THE TURN CAUSED AN INTRUSION VIOLATION OF ADJACENT SUA.

Narrative: ON IFR TKOF FROM SOP, NC, WE TURNED R TO AVOID SMALL PLANE TFC IN THE TFC PATTERN FOR RWY 5 AT SOP. WE SPOTTED A SMALL ACFT (HIGH WING) E OF THE ARPT AND ROLLED OUT TO AVOID A CONFLICT WITH THAT ACFT. AFTER CLRING THE AIRPLANE, WE CONTINUED OUR TURN AND MAY HAVE FLOWN UP AGAINST THE EDGE OF THE RESTR AREA ESE OF SOP. THE OTHER AIRPLANE DID NOT SHOW UP ON OUR TCASII. ON CONTACT WITH ATC, WE WERE ADVISED TO KEEP OUR TURN TIGHT TO AVOID THE RESTR AREA. HERE IS A CASE WHERE WE USED TCASII TO MAKE A TACTICAL DECISION TO NAV IN VFR CONDITIONS ONLY TO ENCOUNTER WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN A NON XPONDER ACFT. THAT BECAME A STARTING POINT FOR A POTENTIAL NAV BLUNDER. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD NOT HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF NON XPONDER EQUIPPED AIRPLANES STILL USE THE AIRSPACE AROUND SMALLER ARPTS. IN OUR ALL IFR, MOSTLY BIG CITY OPS, IT GETS EASY TO RELY MORE AND MORE ON ATC AND TCASII FOR TFC CONFLICT ALERT.
