Narrative:

Descending via the big sur arrival into sfo, bay approach called traffic at 10 O'clock position. We did not have a visual on the traffic, but other aircraft called us in sight. Bay approach told that aircraft to maintain visual with us. We were cleared to descend to 10000 ft MSL. Shortly thereafter, we got a TCASII advisory to arrest descent, we followed. Then came an RA warning to climb -- full power, autoplt disconnected, aft stick to satisfy the RA command (3500 FPM). Aircraft on TCASII display was at 1 - 1:30 O'clock position, 2 NM, approximately 300 ft below us. Notified bay approach of the incident. Other aircraft failed to maintain visual separation.
