Narrative:

After takeoff, during gear retraction, had an EICAS message 'gear disagreement' and 'gear doors.' tower called to inform us that one of the main gear did not retract. We asked for vectors in the local area and worked on the problem. The first officer looked up the problem in our cockpit operating manual, but no procedure was indicated. I called dispatch and maintenance control to discuss options. At maintenance control's direction I moved the gear lever to off, and the indicators then showed the left main down and locked, with the nose and right main retracted. I then moved the gear lever down and all 3 gear indicated down and green. An attempt to raise gear resulted in the same problem. We lowered the gear again and returned for landing. We elected not to use autobrakes -- to reduce stress on the gear. Unfortunately, the right thrust reverser would not deploy during rollout causing a somewhat longer rollout than normal -- onto a very rough portion of the runway. The gear held fine and we taxied to the gate. Note: maintenance was not able to duplicate the problem during gear retraction tests in the hangar.

Title: B757-200 FLC RETURN LAND AFTER THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT. THE R ENG REVERSER FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE LNDG ROLL.

Narrative: AFTER TKOF, DURING GEAR RETRACTION, HAD AN EICAS MESSAGE 'GEAR DISAGREEMENT' AND 'GEAR DOORS.' TWR CALLED TO INFORM US THAT ONE OF THE MAIN GEAR DID NOT RETRACT. WE ASKED FOR VECTORS IN THE LCL AREA AND WORKED ON THE PROB. THE FO LOOKED UP THE PROB IN OUR COCKPIT OPERATING MANUAL, BUT NO PROC WAS INDICATED. I CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL TO DISCUSS OPTIONS. AT MAINT CTL'S DIRECTION I MOVED THE GEAR LEVER TO OFF, AND THE INDICATORS THEN SHOWED THE L MAIN DOWN AND LOCKED, WITH THE NOSE AND R MAIN RETRACTED. I THEN MOVED THE GEAR LEVER DOWN AND ALL 3 GEAR INDICATED DOWN AND GREEN. AN ATTEMPT TO RAISE GEAR RESULTED IN THE SAME PROB. WE LOWERED THE GEAR AGAIN AND RETURNED FOR LNDG. WE ELECTED NOT TO USE AUTOBRAKES -- TO REDUCE STRESS ON THE GEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THE R THRUST REVERSER WOULD NOT DEPLOY DURING ROLLOUT CAUSING A SOMEWHAT LONGER ROLLOUT THAN NORMAL -- ONTO A VERY ROUGH PORTION OF THE RWY. THE GEAR HELD FINE AND WE TAXIED TO THE GATE. NOTE: MAINT WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROB DURING GEAR RETRACTION TESTS IN THE HANGAR.
