Narrative:

On the morning of apr/fri/02, the captain and I were scheduled to fly a beech 1900D from casper, wy, to denver, co. On the ATIS, runway 21 was stated to be in use. When cleared to taxi, the captain heard taxi to runway 21 and I heard taxi to runway 26. I was taxiing because it was my leg and the captain knew I was unfamiliar with the airport and asked if I wanted to see the airport diagram. I looked and noticed that from the terminal it requires a right dogleg turn to get to runway 26. I stated 'I need to make a right dogleg?' the captain responded 'no, just taxi straight ahead.' taxiing straight crosses runway 26 then continues down to runway 21. After taxiing across runway 26, ground radioed and told us we had crossed an active runway without clearance. Instead of asking about the right turn, I should have asked which runway we were taxiing to and asked the captain to identify on the airport diagram how to get to the required runway. Clarification with ground would also have been good.

Title: PLTS MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC, TAXIED ACROSS ACTIVE RWY.

Narrative: ON THE MORNING OF APR/FRI/02, THE CAPT AND I WERE SCHEDULED TO FLY A BEECH 1900D FROM CASPER, WY, TO DENVER, CO. ON THE ATIS, RWY 21 WAS STATED TO BE IN USE. WHEN CLRED TO TAXI, THE CAPT HEARD TAXI TO RWY 21 AND I HEARD TAXI TO RWY 26. I WAS TAXIING BECAUSE IT WAS MY LEG AND THE CAPT KNEW I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND ASKED IF I WANTED TO SEE THE ARPT DIAGRAM. I LOOKED AND NOTICED THAT FROM THE TERMINAL IT REQUIRES A R DOGLEG TURN TO GET TO RWY 26. I STATED 'I NEED TO MAKE A R DOGLEG?' THE CAPT RESPONDED 'NO, JUST TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD.' TAXIING STRAIGHT CROSSES RWY 26 THEN CONTINUES DOWN TO RWY 21. AFTER TAXIING ACROSS RWY 26, GND RADIOED AND TOLD US WE HAD CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC. INSTEAD OF ASKING ABOUT THE R TURN, I SHOULD HAVE ASKED WHICH RWY WE WERE TAXIING TO AND ASKED THE CAPT TO IDENT ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM HOW TO GET TO THE REQUIRED RWY. CLARIFICATION WITH GND WOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN GOOD.
