Narrative:

Prior to departure, the crew chief informed us of gas fumes in the cargo bay and he was going to investigate. He found a power tool leaking gas and also a battery charger unlawfully loaded into the cargo bay. There was no dangerous goods manifest associated with the shipment. The passenger owning this dangerous cargo were deplaned along with the contraband. All bags were removed from the aircraft and the cargo bay was inspected for pools of gasoline. All bags were reloaded, the flight departed. Security personnel were informed of this problem and are investigating the matter.

Title: B757-200 CREW CHIEF FOUND GASOLINE FUMES IN THE CARGO PIT PRIOR TO DEP FOR A S AMERICAN FLT.

Narrative: PRIOR TO DEP, THE CREW CHIEF INFORMED US OF GAS FUMES IN THE CARGO BAY AND HE WAS GOING TO INVESTIGATE. HE FOUND A PWR TOOL LEAKING GAS AND ALSO A BATTERY CHARGER UNLAWFULLY LOADED INTO THE CARGO BAY. THERE WAS NO DANGEROUS GOODS MANIFEST ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHIPMENT. THE PAX OWNING THIS DANGEROUS CARGO WERE DEPLANED ALONG WITH THE CONTRABAND. ALL BAGS WERE REMOVED FROM THE ACFT AND THE CARGO BAY WAS INSPECTED FOR POOLS OF GASOLINE. ALL BAGS WERE RELOADED, THE FLT DEPARTED. SECURITY PERSONNEL WERE INFORMED OF THIS PROB AND ARE INVESTIGATING THE MATTER.
