Narrative:

I was given taxi instructions that in my mind weren't completely clear to me. I made a wrong turn which was pointed out to me by my first officer. I immediately applied the brakes and stopped the aircraft. I don't know if the aircraft was over the hold short line or not, however, it was completely clear of the active runway. The only comment made by ground was that I indeed made a wrong turn. The controller gave me an amended clearance and we continued to taxi to the gate. In retrospect, I should have clarified the instructions. It was certainly a good learning experience. I do think fatigue also contributed. My schedule has been filled with flying with minimum rest periods.

Title: B757 CAPT MADE WRONG TURN WHILE TAXIING TO GATE RESULTING IN STOPPING OVER A RWY HOLD SHORT LINE.

Narrative: I WAS GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS THAT IN MY MIND WEREN'T COMPLETELY CLR TO ME. I MADE A WRONG TURN WHICH WAS POINTED OUT TO ME BY MY FO. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND STOPPED THE ACFT. I DON'T KNOW IF THE ACFT WAS OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE OR NOT, HOWEVER, IT WAS COMPLETELY CLR OF THE ACTIVE RWY. THE ONLY COMMENT MADE BY GND WAS THAT I INDEED MADE A WRONG TURN. THE CTLR GAVE ME AN AMENDED CLRNC AND WE CONTINUED TO TAXI TO THE GATE.
