Narrative:

Cleared to taxi to runway 35 via taxiway east. Finishing a quick turn fuel stop, first officer had not yet obtained clearance and entered route in GPS. SOP would be clearance obtained and route entered prior to taxi. First officer new in aircraft and not familiar with equipment. We copied clearance and started taxi. I was conducting taxi. First officer was fiddling with GPS as we taxied. First officer diverted my attention to GPS. We missed the hold short line. I noticed runway edge line (corner of eye). Jammed brakes and turned hard left to avoid entering runway. Deviation from SOP. All eyes down instead of 1 up, 1 down. First officer unfamiliarity with equipment. Unusual taxiway confign for large airfield. No parallel taxiway south from taxiway east to approach end runway 35.
