Narrative:

I was the captain on a flight from mia to atl. I was cleared to taxi from spot X via taxiway P to runway 9L. I had in my mind that we were going to take off on runway 9R and thought taxiway P was the parallel taxiway to runway 9R. Since I thought I was cleared to taxi to runway 9R I was cleared to cross runway 12 and crossed the runway. After I crossed runway 12, ground informed that I had just crossed an active runway. There was no conflict with other aircraft. Factors: I was expecting to use runway 9R and 'heard' what I was expecting to hear instead of what I actually heard. Suggestion: the present taxi clearance to a runway is clearance to cross runways unless specifically told to hold short. I now think that we should hold short of all runways until specifically cleared to cross.

Title: B717 CREW HAD A RWY INCURSION AT MIA.

SINCE I THOUGHT I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 9R I WAS CLRED TO CROSS RWY 12 AND CROSSED THE RWY. AFTER I CROSSED RWY 12, GND INFORMED THAT I HAD JUST CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT. FACTORS: I WAS EXPECTING TO USE RWY 9R AND 'HEARD' WHAT I WAS EXPECTING TO HEAR INSTEAD OF WHAT I ACTUALLY HEARD. SUGGESTION: THE PRESENT TAXI CLRNC TO A RWY IS CLRNC TO CROSS RWYS UNLESS SPECIFICALLY TOLD TO HOLD SHORT. I NOW THINK THAT WE SHOULD HOLD SHORT OF ALL RWYS UNTIL SPECIFICALLY CLRED TO CROSS.
