Narrative:
On feb/fri/02 I was assigned to ship X. I noticed an inoperative on the captain's instrument panel. On further investigation, I found that the instrument panel had a damaged attachment latch. This item was written by the flight crew on feb/wed/02. It was on page X PIREP xx and deferred as being unairworthy. I brought it to the attention of my supervisor who consulted with the service engineer. The service engineer agreed it was an xa-xx deferral. Disagreed with his verdict but there was little else I could do.
