Narrative:

This mission was supposed to be a 1 1/2 hour long unsupervised solo, covering preflight preparation, preflight procedures, airport operations, takeoffs, lndgs with various flap settings, and postflt procedures. WX information was received from AWOS, airport information and calculation formulas were from performance takeoff data form. After inspecting the plane, everything was found to be in satisfactory condition. I followed through with the abcd restart, start-up, and after start checklist. I contacted ground and received clearance to taxi to runway 30L at taxiway K. Upon arrival, I performed the engine run-up, then contacted tower to request clearance for takeoff and touch-and-goes. Clearance was given, takeoff final items were completed and I entered onto the runway for a normal takeoff. I was flying in a standard left traffic pattern at iwa. Tower contacted me and I was cleared to make my first landing. Landing final items were done to abcd standards and I was approaching the runway for a flaps 25 degree landing. As I was about to touch down, I began to float a little off center and elected to do a go around. I came around for my second landing, performing everything as I had before. I climbed and flew the pattern to complete my third landing of the afternoon. On climb out, I heard that there was no ATIS information and that the winds were from 210 degrees at 4 KTS. For runway 30L this would put the crosswind component at 4 KTS, just below my 5 KT limit that was assigned to me by my instructor. I was cleared to land and decided to see how this upcoming landing was. If I felt uncomfortable, I was going to make a full stop and call it a day, if I felt good I would continue on with the mission. As I got closer to touchdown, I again was performing the crosswind technique, but I did not apply enough aileron to keep from being blown off center. I drifted to the right of center and tried to correct with more left aileron and more right rudder. I did this too late, however, and touched down with a significant side load. When this happened, I shot across to the left side of the runway. I cut all power and applied brakes to try and bring the aircraft back under control. I was still moving from right to left across the runway. I left the runway and went onto the dirt before what I believe was taxiway left. I was able to miss the runway lights and taxiway markers on the right side of taxiway left. I then crossed taxiway left still applying brakes trying to gain control. I left taxiway left and was back on the dirt, almost stopped when my right wing came in contact with the taxiway marker on the left side of taxiway left. The sign was knocked over with my right wing and the wing had a dent in it approximately 18 inches long and 3 inches wide. The plane came to a complete stop within 5 ft after the collision. The plane was still running after the collision so I proceeded to perform an emergency shutdown to abcd standards. When this was done I contacted the tower and declared an emergency.

Narrative: THIS MISSION WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A 1 1/2 HR LONG UNSUPERVISED SOLO, COVERING PREFLT PREPARATION, PREFLT PROCS, ARPT OPS, TKOFS, LNDGS WITH VARIOUS FLAP SETTINGS, AND POSTFLT PROCS. WX INFO WAS RECEIVED FROM AWOS, ARPT INFO AND CALCULATION FORMULAS WERE FROM PERFORMANCE TKOF DATA FORM. AFTER INSPECTING THE PLANE, EVERYTHING WAS FOUND TO BE IN SATISFACTORY CONDITION. I FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THE ABCD RESTART, START-UP, AND AFTER START CHKLIST. I CONTACTED GND AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 30L AT TXWY K. UPON ARR, I PERFORMED THE ENG RUN-UP, THEN CONTACTED TWR TO REQUEST CLRNC FOR TKOF AND TOUCH-AND-GOES. CLRNC WAS GIVEN, TKOF FINAL ITEMS WERE COMPLETED AND I ENTERED ONTO THE RWY FOR A NORMAL TKOF. I WAS FLYING IN A STANDARD L TFC PATTERN AT IWA. TWR CONTACTED ME AND I WAS CLRED TO MAKE MY FIRST LNDG. LNDG FINAL ITEMS WERE DONE TO ABCD STANDARDS AND I WAS APCHING THE RWY FOR A FLAPS 25 DEG LNDG. AS I WAS ABOUT TO TOUCH DOWN, I BEGAN TO FLOAT A LITTLE OFF CTR AND ELECTED TO DO A GAR. I CAME AROUND FOR MY SECOND LNDG, PERFORMING EVERYTHING AS I HAD BEFORE. I CLBED AND FLEW THE PATTERN TO COMPLETE MY THIRD LNDG OF THE AFTERNOON. ON CLBOUT, I HEARD THAT THERE WAS NO ATIS INFO AND THAT THE WINDS WERE FROM 210 DEGS AT 4 KTS. FOR RWY 30L THIS WOULD PUT THE XWIND COMPONENT AT 4 KTS, JUST BELOW MY 5 KT LIMIT THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO ME BY MY INSTRUCTOR. I WAS CLRED TO LAND AND DECIDED TO SEE HOW THIS UPCOMING LNDG WAS. I DRIFTED TO THE R OF CTR AND TRIED TO CORRECT WITH MORE L AILERON AND MORE R RUDDER. I DID THIS TOO LATE, HOWEVER, AND TOUCHED DOWN WITH A SIGNIFICANT SIDE LOAD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I SHOT ACROSS TO THE L SIDE OF THE RWY. I CUT ALL PWR AND APPLIED BRAKES TO TRY AND BRING THE ACFT BACK UNDER CTL. I WAS STILL MOVING FROM R TO L ACROSS THE RWY. I LEFT THE RWY AND WENT ONTO THE DIRT BEFORE WHAT I BELIEVE WAS TXWY L. I WAS ABLE TO MISS THE RWY LIGHTS AND TXWY MARKERS ON THE R SIDE OF TXWY L. I THEN CROSSED TXWY L STILL APPLYING BRAKES TRYING TO GAIN CTL. I LEFT TXWY L AND WAS BACK ON THE DIRT, ALMOST STOPPED WHEN MY R WING CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE TXWY MARKER ON THE L SIDE OF TXWY L. THE SIGN WAS KNOCKED OVER WITH MY R WING AND THE WING HAD A DENT IN IT APPROX 18 INCHES LONG AND 3 INCHES WIDE. THE PLANE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITHIN 5 FT AFTER THE COLLISION. THE PLANE WAS STILL RUNNING AFTER THE COLLISION SO I PROCEEDED TO PERFORM AN EMER SHUTDOWN TO ABCD STANDARDS. WHEN THIS WAS DONE I CONTACTED THE TWR AND DECLARED AN EMER.
