Narrative:
First officer loaded the flight plan into the FMS. After he finished, we received the pre departure clearance. There was a change in routing which I revised in the FMC. The first officer looked at the pre departure clearance and changed the route again. He misunderstood the revised segment on the pre departure clearance. Original route: oak.OAK5.oak..lin.J84.MVA.J198.ilc.J58 mlf hbu POWDR4 den. Pre departure clearance route: oak OAK5 oak lin J84 dta jnc POWDR4 den. Revised segment: OAK5 oak lin J84 MVA.
