Narrative:

When we dutied in after the overnight, ramp agents informed us the aircraft was missing a cover over the low pressure air inlet. We called maintenance and after 10-15 mins research they told me that our aircraft were not equipped with this cover. We departed and on arriving at our home base checked another aircraft and found the cover is installed. Later we learned it is an item covered in the MEL requiring a visual inspection and flight below 25000 ft, neither of which we knew about prior to our flight.
