Narrative:

I was instructing 2 military officers in a flight screening program. Because these 2 individuals were under a time constraint to finish their program, I was flying 6-7 hours/day. I scheduled us to fly an airplane which I thought had 60 hours left before it was due for a 100 hour inspection. I made this determination by checking a maintenance status sheet the school operator kept with the airplane. On dec/sun/01, I flew the final cross country flight with one of my students. When we arrived back at the school, the airplane should have had 46.5 hours before the 100 hour inspection was due. When I came to work on dec/thu/01, I noted that the airplane had a 100 hour inspection completed on dec/wed/01. Confused about this, I checked the maintenance status board and realized the airplane was overflown by 3.5 hours. I checked the aircraft logbooks to verify the accuracy of the status board and realized that the status board was also wrong -- the airplane overflew the 100 hours by 5.5 hours! I discussed the issue with the school operator and our maintenance people. As an additional follow-up, I reviewed the status sheets in the remainder of the school's airplanes and found another airplane in which the status sheet incorrectly showed when an inspection was due.

Title: PLT SCHOOL ACFT WENT OVER THE 100 HR INSPECTION REQUIREMENT DUE TO THE INACCURACY OF THE SCHOOL'S ACFT INSPECTION STATUS BOARD AND THE ACTUAL LOGBOOK RECORDS.

WHEN WE ARRIVED BACK AT THE SCHOOL, THE AIRPLANE SHOULD HAVE HAD 46.5 HRS BEFORE THE 100 HR INSPECTION WAS DUE. WHEN I CAME TO WORK ON DEC/THU/01, I NOTED THAT THE AIRPLANE HAD A 100 HR INSPECTION COMPLETED ON DEC/WED/01.
