Narrative:

On vector for NDB runway 17, sugarland. Directed to proceed direct to airport. As I received the direct instruction, my ADF needle indicated that I was on the approach course. I turned to 168 degrees to track to the airport. I did not let down because I was not cleared for the approach and now I was going to the airport. ATC asked my heading and then advised that the airport was 30 degrees right. I hit 'direct to' on my GPS and it too showed the airport to the right. I proceeded to the airport, got it in sight and landed. I think the lightning in the area affected the ADF and headed me in the wrong direction. The next time I will set up the GPS to monitor the approach. I have made a lot of NDB approachs and have not had a problem. I assumed that when ATC told me to go direct to the airport that I was now going for a visual approach.

Narrative: ON VECTOR FOR NDB RWY 17, SUGARLAND. DIRECTED TO PROCEED DIRECT TO ARPT. AS I RECEIVED THE DIRECT INSTRUCTION, MY ADF NEEDLE INDICATED THAT I WAS ON THE APCH COURSE. I HIT 'DIRECT TO' ON MY GPS AND IT TOO SHOWED THE ARPT TO THE R. I PROCEEDED TO THE ARPT, GOT IT IN SIGHT AND LANDED. I THINK THE LIGHTNING IN THE AREA AFFECTED THE ADF AND HEADED ME IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. THE NEXT TIME I WILL SET UP THE GPS TO MONITOR THE APCH.
