Narrative:

I was taxiing onto the ord international ramp en route to gate xa after acquiring the lead-in line and park lights. The aircraft was turned onto the parking line. I mistakenly believed the azimuth guidance lights would extinguish from bottom to top as I approached the stop point and would then flash red to stop. As the aircraft drew nearer to the terminal the azimuth lights did not go out. I finally recognized my error and saw the circular red stop light was illuminated. The aircraft was stopped and brake set past the designated jetway stop point.
