Narrative:

Prior to phx approach turning me over to chandler tower, I got the chandler ATIS. The chd ATIS advised chd was landing runway 4 (not runways 4R&left). Upon contacting ghd tower, I was told to follow traffic for runway 4L. I had traffic in sight and followed it to runway 4. However, it was runway 4R and tower (on short final) advised me to go around, which I did. While cleaning up, tower requested a left turn, which I did as soon as it was safe to do so. The traffic I followed was the only traffic at chd at that time. Apparently there was another plane landing on the left (runway 4) several mins before I turned to final behind the traffic I was following. The tower (excitedly) asked me to turn left immediately after requesting my go around. I advised tower I was turning left as soon as it was safe. Upon landing, I turned off thinking they had ok'ed me to parking while 'staying with tower frequency.' afterward while taxiing to the fuel pump, ground asked me to call. ATIS should have advised runways left and right (runway 4) in use.

Title: PA34 PLT BECAME CONFUSED AS TO WHICH RWY WAS ASSIGNED FOR LNDG.

Narrative: PRIOR TO PHX APCH TURNING ME OVER TO CHANDLER TWR, I GOT THE CHANDLER ATIS. THE CHD ATIS ADVISED CHD WAS LNDG RWY 4 (NOT RWYS 4R&L). UPON CONTACTING GHD TWR, I WAS TOLD TO FOLLOW TFC FOR RWY 4L. I HAD TFC IN SIGHT AND FOLLOWED IT TO RWY 4. HOWEVER, IT WAS RWY 4R AND TWR (ON SHORT FINAL) ADVISED ME TO GO AROUND, WHICH I DID. WHILE CLEANING UP, TWR REQUESTED A L TURN, WHICH I DID AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE TO DO SO. THE TFC I FOLLOWED WAS THE ONLY TFC AT CHD AT THAT TIME. APPARENTLY THERE WAS ANOTHER PLANE LNDG ON THE L (RWY 4) SEVERAL MINS BEFORE I TURNED TO FINAL BEHIND THE TFC I WAS FOLLOWING. THE TWR (EXCITEDLY) ASKED ME TO TURN L IMMEDIATELY AFTER REQUESTING MY GAR. I ADVISED TWR I WAS TURNING L AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE. UPON LNDG, I TURNED OFF THINKING THEY HAD OK'ED ME TO PARKING WHILE 'STAYING WITH TWR FREQ.' AFTERWARD WHILE TAXIING TO THE FUEL PUMP, GND ASKED ME TO CALL. ATIS SHOULD HAVE ADVISED RWYS L AND R (RWY 4) IN USE.
