Narrative:

I had been on leave for three of the four previous weeks prior to the incident. Dec/wed/01 was my second day back at work. I was working the south departure sector with light to moderate traffic. The C182 was maneuvering at 7500 ft approximately 5 to 8 NM east of phx. The B757 departed phx climbing to a tower assigned altitude of 7000 ft. I advised radar contact and instructed the B757 to climb and maintain FL210. The C182 reported operational eastbound, I advised to report on station. While attending to some other traffic situation the B757 reported a near mid-air with a C182. The C182 had turned wbound and he B757 had slowed its climb rate. The data blocks were over lapping. It was too late for corrective action on my part, so I cleared the B757 on course and advised to stand by.
