Narrative:

At FL290 cabin altitude caution came on. We followed the QRH procedure but could not stop the altitude. We began a precautionary descent. At about FL245 the cabin altitude warning came on. We began an emergency descent to 10000 ft. At 10000 ft we got the cabin altitude to descend to about 8500 ft. The flight attendant called and said she smelled smoke and didn't think it was from the heat generated by the chemical oxygen system. We asked for a vector to the nearest suitable airport because of the possible fire. We declared an emergency and landed. We evacuate/evacuationed the passenger as a precaution. No evidence of fire was found and at XA45 local we ferried the airplane back to cvg uneventfully.
