Narrative:

Cleared for VOR/DME runway 22L to kjfk. Assigned heading 260 degrees to intercept. Selected to fly approach in navigation mode but aircraft did not capture final and flew through final approach course. Ended up 0.9 mi right of course. Controller saw the fly-through and re-cleared us for visual approach after confirming runway was insight. I do not believe there was any conflicts arising from this situation. Controller never sounded excited or irritated. The reason the aircraft didn't intercept final was because I didn't clear the 'turn point' on the from line after loading the approach into the FMS. If we had been monitoring VOR raw data this would not have occurred. (Like we're supposed to.)

Title: AN MD11 CREW, ON A VOR APCH TO KJFK, FAILED TO INTERCEPT THE FINAL APCH COURSE, DEVIATING 0.9 NM RIGHT OF COURSE.

Narrative: CLRED FOR VOR/DME RWY 22L TO KJFK. ASSIGNED HEADING 260 DEGS TO INTERCEPT. SELECTED TO FLY APCH IN NAV MODE BUT ACFT DID NOT CAPTURE FINAL AND FLEW THROUGH FINAL APCH COURSE. ENDED UP 0.9 MI RIGHT OF COURSE. CTLR SAW THE FLY-THROUGH AND RE-CLRED US FOR VISUAL APCH AFTER CONFIRMING RWY WAS INSIGHT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS ANY CONFLICTS ARISING FROM THIS SIT. CTLR NEVER SOUNDED EXCITED OR IRRITATED. THE REASON THE ACFT DIDN'T INTERCEPT FINAL WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T CLR THE 'TURN POINT' ON THE FROM LINE AFTER LOADING THE APCH INTO THE FMS. IF WE HAD BEEN MONITORING VOR RAW DATA THIS WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. (LIKE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO.)
