Narrative:

Tower assigned us a departure vector of 'turn right 270 degrees.' at 400 ft AGL after takeoff, we made the turn and also noticed another aircraft on our right taking off and turning west from the parallel (runway 17R?). We stayed visually separated from that aircraft by shallowing our turn. The tower controller then told us to turn 'right' to 260 degrees (after we were steady 270 degrees). We queried him whether our initial heading should have been 270 degrees (it seemed strange to us) and he said 'everything is okay, contact departure.' supplemental information from acn 530223: we queried the controller if he wanted a left turn to 260 degrees and asked if he had intended for us to turn to 270 degrees initially. His response was, 'no, everything is ok.' it is my belief that the controller intended to issue an initial clearance of 170 degrees, not 270 degrees. Fortunately, VFR prevailed and visual separation could be maintained.

Title: A B738 CREW, DEPARTING DEN TO THE S IN AN ASSIGNED TURN TO THE W, OBSERVED ANOTHER ACFT, A DEP FROM THE PARALLEL, ALSO TURNING WBOUND.

Narrative: TWR ASSIGNED US A DEP VECTOR OF 'TURN R 270 DEGS.' AT 400 FT AGL AFTER TKOF, WE MADE THE TURN AND ALSO NOTICED ANOTHER ACFT ON OUR R TAKING OFF AND TURNING W FROM THE PARALLEL (RWY 17R?). WE STAYED VISUALLY SEPARATED FROM THAT ACFT BY SHALLOWING OUR TURN. THE TWR CTLR THEN TOLD US TO TURN 'R' TO 260 DEGS (AFTER WE WERE STEADY 270 DEGS). WE QUERIED HIM WHETHER OUR INITIAL HEADING SHOULD HAVE BEEN 270 DEGS (IT SEEMED STRANGE TO US) AND HE SAID 'EVERYTHING IS OKAY, CONTACT DEP.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 530223: WE QUERIED THE CTLR IF HE WANTED A L TURN TO 260 DEGS AND ASKED IF HE HAD INTENDED FOR US TO TURN TO 270 DEGS INITIALLY. HIS RESPONSE WAS, 'NO, EVERYTHING IS OK.' IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE CTLR INTENDED TO ISSUE AN INITIAL CLRNC OF 170 DEGS, NOT 270 DEGS. FORTUNATELY, VFR PREVAILED AND VISUAL SEPARATION COULD BE MAINTAINED.
