Narrative:

A direct flight from old bridge, nj, to 4i9, oh. The flight was at 8500 ft, which took us north and above pittsburgh class B airspace. We needed fuel to continue our flight and considered carrol county in ohio outside the airspace. My pilot/passenger called approach and asked if we could enter class B airspace to begin descent to carrol county. Approach had us squawk a code, recycle the transponder and squawk again. Then they asked us to squawk 7700. We were told they could not find us, asked if we had carol county in sight. We did as we were above the airport at this point. We were told to call FSS upon landing. We called and were told we had violated class B airspace. I had understood VFR restrs had been lifted since the sep/11 event. With the exception of washington, new york, chicago, I am not aware that the dimensions of class B airspace have been changed.
