Narrative:

On nov/sun/01, I departed on a VFR flight in ZZZ. I am a CFI with approximately 900 hours. I was departing on an introductory flight with a prospective student. As the instructor, I conducted a thorough preflight. This included a check of the WX. I telephoned the XXX FSS, and requested a WX briefing. I specifically requested a standard WX brief for a VFR flight from YYY (airport of origin)to the south of xyz and then northbound to over-fly xyz via xyz. (During the briefing, the briefer made no mention of any NOTAMS or temporary flight restrs (tfr) pertinent to my flight). I would then descend from 4500 ft MSL to 3500 ft MSL, reverse course, and once again via xyz return sbound to the YYY airport for landing. The flight was flown exactly as planned. After completing the flight, YYY ground control instructed me to call WWW approach via telephone. I did as I was instructed. WWW approach informed me that I had violated a recently established tfr. I was also informed (by the FAA) that I was the fourth person to penetrate this area since the NOTAM took effect, and there were other pilots complaining that they had not been informed either. The restr was put into place for an event being held in ZZZ. The tfr extended from the ZZZ VORTAC on the 352 degree radial, 7 DME fix, from the surface to 5000 ft MSL. The tfr area overlapped xyz. This particular tfr had gone into effect 90 mins prior to the initiation of my flight. In short, I am not denying my entry into this area. However, I feel that because I was not properly informed of its existence, I had no way of knowing I was in violation. According to the 2001 publication of the aim section 5-1-3, unpublished fdc NOTAMS shall be maintained and made available by FSS. Had I been properly informed of this restricted area, I would not have penetrated it.

Title: A C172 PLT VIOLATED A TFR.

I WOULD THEN DSND FROM 4500 FT MSL TO 3500 FT MSL, REVERSE COURSE, AND ONCE AGAIN VIA XYZ RETURN SBOUND TO THE YYY ARPT FOR LNDG. THE FLT WAS FLOWN EXACTLY AS PLANNED. AFTER COMPLETING THE FLT, YYY GND CTL INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL WWW APCH VIA TELEPHONE. I DID AS I WAS INSTRUCTED. WWW APCH INFORMED ME THAT I HAD VIOLATED A RECENTLY ESTABLISHED TFR. I WAS ALSO INFORMED (BY THE FAA) THAT I WAS THE FOURTH PERSON TO PENETRATE THIS AREA SINCE THE NOTAM TOOK EFFECT, AND THERE WERE OTHER PLTS COMPLAINING THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED EITHER. THE RESTR WAS PUT INTO PLACE FOR AN EVENT BEING HELD IN ZZZ. THE TFR EXTENDED FROM THE ZZZ VORTAC ON THE 352 DEG RADIAL, 7 DME FIX, FROM THE SURFACE TO 5000 FT MSL. THE TFR AREA OVERLAPPED XYZ. THIS PARTICULAR TFR HAD GONE INTO EFFECT 90 MINS PRIOR TO THE INITIATION OF MY FLT. IN SHORT, I AM NOT DENYING MY ENTRY INTO THIS AREA. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT BECAUSE I WAS NOT PROPERLY INFORMED OF ITS EXISTENCE, I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING I WAS IN VIOLATION. ACCORDING TO THE 2001 PUB OF THE AIM SECTION 5-1-3, UNPUBLISHED FDC NOTAMS SHALL BE MAINTAINED AND MADE AVAILABLE BY FSS. HAD I BEEN PROPERLY INFORMED OF THIS RESTRICTED AREA, I WOULD NOT HAVE PENETRATED IT.
