Narrative:

I checked WX and NOTAMS prior to departing ZZZ to YYY. The flight was VFR. I didn't check every town I flew over for nuclear power plants and flew around all larger cities including airspace. I did monitor their departure frequency and hear them report me to another aircraft a cherokee, at his 9:30 position at 2000 ft. My course line took me close to a town. Upon landing at XXX there was a phone call for me. I crossed the 10 mile ring. I stopped there for fuel. Upon my return flight the same evening I called flight service for WX and NOTAMS. I specifically asked him about the nuclear plants, he said there was none on my flight path. I said there has to be, because I entered one on my way over. He insisted there was none. I departed and called ATC and had them vector me around the plant. I know the ultimate responsibility for NOTAMS lies with the pilot. My next flight I will dig through the NOTAMS much deeper. I do think the controller could have broadcast on his departure frequency, 'aircraft east of airport you are entering restr airspace, do a 180 degree turn,' rather than track me all the way. I monitored his frequency all the way and he wasn't busy on the radio. There is nothing on the sectional chart indicating where nuclear plants are. It does say plant for the one, but all it says by another is school and water. Maybe it would help if nuclear plants were identified as such on sectionals. Actually, it was a good test. If the system worked I should be dead! There are 95 NOTAMS for route off duat and 40 pages of fdc NOTAMS.

Title: A RV8 PLT VIOLATED THE RESTR AIRSPACE INVOLVING A NUCLEAR PWR PLANT.

Narrative: I CHECKED WX AND NOTAMS PRIOR TO DEPARTING ZZZ TO YYY. THE FLT WAS VFR. I DIDN'T CHECK EVERY TOWN I FLEW OVER FOR NUCLEAR PWR PLANTS AND FLEW AROUND ALL LARGER CITIES INCLUDING AIRSPACE. I DID MONITOR THEIR DEP FREQUENCY AND HEAR THEM RPT ME TO ANOTHER ACFT A CHEROKEE, AT HIS 9:30 POSITION AT 2000 FT. MY COURSE LINE TOOK ME CLOSE TO A TOWN. UPON LNDG AT XXX THERE WAS A PHONE CALL FOR ME. I CROSSED THE 10 MILE RING. I STOPPED THERE FOR FUEL. UPON MY RETURN FLT THE SAME EVENING I CALLED FLT SVC FOR WX AND NOTAMS. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED HIM ABOUT THE NUCLEAR PLANTS, HE SAID THERE WAS NONE ON MY FLT PATH. I SAID THERE HAS TO BE, BECAUSE I ENTERED ONE ON MY WAY OVER. HE INSISTED THERE WAS NONE. I DEPARTED AND CALLED ATC AND HAD THEM VECTOR ME AROUND THE PLANT. I KNOW THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOTAMS LIES WITH THE PLT. MY NEXT FLT I WILL DIG THROUGH THE NOTAMS MUCH DEEPER. I DO THINK THE CTLR COULD HAVE BROADCAST ON HIS DEP FREQ, 'ACFT EAST OF ARPT YOU ARE ENTERING RESTR AIRSPACE, DO A 180 DEG TURN,' RATHER THAN TRACK ME ALL THE WAY. I MONITORED HIS FREQ ALL THE WAY AND HE WASN'T BUSY ON THE RADIO. THERE IS NOTHING ON THE SECTIONAL CHART INDICATING WHERE NUCLEAR PLANTS ARE.
