Narrative:

Landing for first time at vancouver (pearson field) told controller that I would do a visual, but he should vector me in as I have never been there before. I was following a lear jet to runway 10L that I never saw so slowed up and lined up as landing runway 10L portland. After I saw the jet was asked if I wanted to cancel IFR and I agreed. Since I was already south of pearson I called left base for runway 26 at pearson and landed. Was advised that runway 26 pearson has right traffic to avoid portland traffic. There were no close calls, but suggest that portland approach advise pilots after canceling IFR for pearson to enter traffic pattern to north, ie right traffic runway 26 left traffic runway 08.

Title: ON HIS FIRST ARR AT PEARSON FIELD, WA, A PLT REQUESTS VECTORS TO A VISUAL APCH WHICH HE FOLLOWS UP WITH A L TFC PATTERN INSTEAD OF THE PUBLISHED R TFC PATTERN.

Narrative: LNDG FOR FIRST TIME AT VANCOUVER (PEARSON FIELD) TOLD CTLR THAT I WOULD DO A VISUAL, BUT HE SHOULD VECTOR ME IN AS I HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE. I WAS FOLLOWING A LEAR JET TO RWY 10L THAT I NEVER SAW SO SLOWED UP AND LINED UP AS LNDG RWY 10L PORTLAND. AFTER I SAW THE JET WAS ASKED IF I WANTED TO CANCEL IFR AND I AGREED. SINCE I WAS ALREADY S OF PEARSON I CALLED L BASE FOR RWY 26 AT PEARSON AND LANDED. WAS ADVISED THAT RWY 26 PEARSON HAS RIGHT TFC TO AVOID PORTLAND TFC. THERE WERE NO CLOSE CALLS, BUT SUGGEST THAT PORTLAND APCH ADVISE PLTS AFTER CANCELING IFR FOR PEARSON TO ENTER TFC PATTERN TO N, IE R TFC RWY 26 L TFC RWY 08.
