Narrative:

I was at lgb. I was given a clearance by ground control to taxi from the northeast parking area to runway 30. I was instructed to taxi via taxiway K, taxiway C, then taxiway left, cross runway 25L, hold short of runway 30. I taxied on taxiway K, then south on taxiway C, but failed to turn left on taxiway left. In this area, 3 txwys (taxiway C, taxiway left, and taxiway J) and 3 runways (runway 30, runway 25L, and runway 16L) intersect in close proximity. I taxied past taxiway left approximately 30 ft and crossed the hold lines for runway 30. As I was crossing the hold lines, I realized the mistake. I immediately turned left on taxiway J (directly adjacent the hold lines), then an immediate turn on taxiway left. By turning left on taxiway J, I was able to remain off of runway 30. There was no traffic on runway 30. Factors that contributed to the error included being relatively unfamiliar with this portion of the airport. I have only taxied in this area twice before. On both prior occasions, I was instructed to enter runway 30 for an intersection departure at taxiway C. By being given the initial clearance to cross runway 25L, I expected to cross 1 set of hold lines before reaching runway 30. Extra vigilance will be used to avoid a similar incident in the future.

Title: A C550 PLT CROSSES THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 30 WHEN TOLD TO HOLD SHORT, AT LGB, CA.

Narrative: I WAS AT LGB. I WAS GIVEN A CLRNC BY GND CTL TO TAXI FROM THE NE PARKING AREA TO RWY 30. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI VIA TXWY K, TXWY C, THEN TXWY L, CROSS RWY 25L, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 30. I TAXIED ON TXWY K, THEN S ON TXWY C, BUT FAILED TO TURN L ON TXWY L. IN THIS AREA, 3 TXWYS (TXWY C, TXWY L, AND TXWY J) AND 3 RWYS (RWY 30, RWY 25L, AND RWY 16L) INTERSECT IN CLOSE PROX. I TAXIED PAST TXWY L APPROX 30 FT AND CROSSED THE HOLD LINES FOR RWY 30. AS I WAS XING THE HOLD LINES, I REALIZED THE MISTAKE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED L ON TXWY J (DIRECTLY ADJACENT THE HOLD LINES), THEN AN IMMEDIATE TURN ON TXWY L. BY TURNING L ON TXWY J, I WAS ABLE TO REMAIN OFF OF RWY 30. THERE WAS NO TFC ON RWY 30. FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE ERROR INCLUDED BEING RELATIVELY UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS PORTION OF THE ARPT. I HAVE ONLY TAXIED IN THIS AREA TWICE BEFORE. ON BOTH PRIOR OCCASIONS, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO ENTER RWY 30 FOR AN INTXN DEP AT TXWY C. BY BEING GIVEN THE INITIAL CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 25L, I EXPECTED TO CROSS 1 SET OF HOLD LINES BEFORE REACHING RWY 30. EXTRA VIGILANCE WILL BE USED TO AVOID A SIMILAR INCIDENT IN THE FUTURE.
