Shortly after takeoff, rain shower off departure corridor rapidly intensified. Requested right turnout to avoid possible severe turbulence/windshear. Tower refused. We invoked far 91.3. No other aircraft were in conflict. Right turn was accomplished. (Shortly thereafter, LLWS advisories were broadcast on clt's ATIS.)
