Narrative:

12 mi south of jfk, ny, over the atlantic ocean. Rules in effect: due to wtc incident, VFR for civilian aircraft, 25 mi restr around dc and nyc, or? 25 mi around jfk airport! On 10/wed/01, at XA00. I took off from (3n6) old bridge, nj, in central nj. Clear skies, 30 mi visibility, light wind 5 knots from the west. Transponder is set to 1200, mode C in operation, and jfk ATC 119.1 on radio for monitoring purposes my destination is montauk point, ny. Aware of the restr over nyc my heading is due east 90 degree, 90 knots at the altitude of 1000 ft. Upon take off from old bridge, I proceeded to the nj coast over the atlantic highlands. 25 mi off the nj coast 12 mi off the ny coast my altitude is 200 ft MSL south of jfk airport. Jfk ATC contacts me to inform of possible jets of military origin descending upon my plane. Jfk ATC gets my identification and origin of flight, destination, and notifies military presence. Jfk ATC transfers me to long island ctrl an my trip is monitored by them for the remaining trip. Upon landing at montauk point long island (mtp). I called the phone # given to me by jfk control, identified myself and explained the situation. The violation was inadvertent, not deliberate. Consequently, I am filing this report to ASRS in order to be eligible for immunity.
