Narrative:

Currently FAA requires us to carry certain tools. Most of us use a universal tool for these tools. Please ensure no FAA violations are issued for crews on the road who surrendered their universal tools. No pliers or screw drivers etc -- because they were all on the universal tool and we have no, repeat no way to get these tools on the road. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that it is an FAA requirement to have during flight a cutting tool for removing the flex handcuffs carried by all flight crew members. Therefore, since he had to surrender his to airport security at denver, he was subject to being in violation of the company FAA approved operating procedures. He further stated that he hopes that FAA is aware of this so that flight crews are not unnecessarily violated.

CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT IT IS AN FAA REQUIREMENT TO HAVE DURING FLT A CUTTING TOOL FOR REMOVING THE FLEX HANDCUFFS CARRIED BY ALL FLT CREW MEMBERS. THEREFORE, SINCE HE HAD TO SURRENDER HIS TO ARPT SECURITY AT DENVER, HE WAS SUBJECT TO BEING IN VIOLATION OF THE COMPANY FAA APPROVED OPERATING PROCS.
