Narrative:

Ict approach control instructed us to descend to 4000 ft. First officer was flying the aircraft with autoplt engaged. Captain made the '5000 ft for 4000 ft' call and went heads-up to try to find the airport (ict) visually. First officer forgot to engage the autoplt altitude capture feature, and aircraft descended to approximately 3700 ft MSL before we realized what was happening, when the altitude warning horn went off. Aircraft went to approximately 3600 ft MSL during 'recovery,' as the captain disconnected the autoplt and returned the aircraft to 4000 ft. First officer had also been heads-up during the transition through 4000 ft instead of monitoring the autoplt.
